UNHEALTHY FATS!

Here is a list of things that we should leave out in our grocery list. I got this from Fat Burning Kitchen by Mike Geary and Catherine Ebeling.

 Slim-fast shakes-far from healthy, they're actually loaded with high fructose corn syrup,
hydrogenated oils, and a bunch of other chemicals that will add fat to your body, not aid
in weight loss.

 Fat Free Rice Cakes-they really are nothing but pure refined starch with zero fiber, which
breaks down immediately into sugar in your body, spiking insulin and promoting fat
storage.

 Protein/Energy bars-isolated soy protein (virtually unusable by your body), hydrogenated
oils, high fructose corn syrup and artificial preservatives. Basically a candy bar in a
deceiving package. Toss quickly into the nearest trash can!

 Reduced Sugar Desserts loaded with artificial sweeteners that trick your brain, and
trigger hunger, sugar alcohols, preservatives, and a chemical ingredient list about 15 lines
long. Nothing at all good in there. It‘s a mad scientist‘s experiment gone awry!

 Diet soda-loaded with artificial sweeteners that such as NutraSweet or Splenda that do
more harm than good, raise the insulin levels in your body and cause you to be hungry
and store fat. Diet? I hardly think so!

 Chips, crackers, and cookies-loaded with hydrogenated (read, ―heart attack in a box‖)
fats, inflammatory processed omega-6 oils, and processed flours. High carb foods that
add weight gain almost instantly!

 Refined vegetable oils such as canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, safflower
oil, or (God forbid!) Crisco, for cooking and salad dressings-these are composed highly
of oxidized omega 6 fatty acids, which lead to inflammation, heart disease, weight gain
and fat around the midsection.

 Sugary cereals-Advertised as healthy and high fiber; these cereals are loaded with sugar,
and refined fat-factory grains such as corn, soybean flour and wheat. They will make you
hungrier, spike your blood sugar and increase your insulin response, thus putting your
body into a fat-storing mode.

A reflection on Eid

Taqabbal Allahu Minna Wa Minkum.
May Allah accept from us and you.

Wishing you Eid Mubarak!

As we celebrate one of the two festive celebrations in a year, visiting relatives, friends and attending open house invitations are the norm.

Remember, that those of you who have managed to fast the whole Ramadan, go easy on your stomach. Through fasting, we have done a good job to detoxify our body from harmful ingredients in our daily 'food'. Why 'food'? Because, there are many non consumable items in the market, masquerading as real food. Such as? Such as food colouring,  fake meat, highly injected with hormon chickens, corn syrup in almost everything on the shelf, GMO in organic food, etcetera.

Our bodies are just getting itself adjusted, when we bombard it with 'food' and everything that is on the buffet table. Eating too much all at once stresses the body. No wonder we feel sleepy after eating.
The best thing to do right now, would be to take an early morning walk. No matter how sleepy you are. It is good to fill your brain with more oxygen from the fresh air. You will feel less and less sleepy each day as you progress. Drink 8 glasses of clean water, whether it is mineral water or R.O water.

☺ Keep healthy!

You could suffer a stroke if you...

Did you ever felt depressed and so sad that you would want to cry for hours?

What if you cried and carry on crying profusely, you might be rushed to a hospital because you might suffer from breathlessness, heart pain or even a mild stroke?

What happens when you cry profusely?
Your muscles might get cramped and your fingers will freeze, your lips and parts of your face will be numb.

How to overcome this situation?
First of all, stop crying. Take a deep breath and let it out slowly from your mouth. Repeat this process a few times.

Then repent by saying "Astaghfirrullah" in your heart and vocally. Do it with sincerity and regret. InsyaAllah, with His Will, you will be able to recover in a short time.

TOOTH DECAY WREAKS HAVOC ON BODY

I wished that I could turn back the clock to when I was six years old and took care of my oral hygiene.
Hummpph! Wishful thinking.

I recently found out on my own expense that the years of neglect had actually took a toll on my body system.
It was during my school days that my teeth started to deteriorate. Now pay attention to the visiting dentist. For quite a long time , I had felt discomfort at my throat and constantly felt thirsty and very dry especially when I am driving. I had to clear my throat every now and then with "ehemmm".

Through a thorough medical check up using the latest machinery in the market, I was diagnosed to have Streptococcus bacteria and the source was from my decayed tooth. Apparently the bacteria had multiplied over time and had spread to other organ areas.

A strep infection may lead to complications that affect the heart or other organs. Though rare, this can cause serious illness. There are more than 20 different types of strep bacteria, which are split into two main groups:
- Group A strep (strep A), which are often found on the surface of the skin and inside the throat, and are a common cause of infection in adults and children.
- Group B strep (strep B), which usually live harmlessly inside the digestive system, and in women, in the vagina. Strep B tend only to affect newborn babies and usually cause more serious types of infection.
It is estimated that 1 in 5 pregnant women have strep B bacteria in their digestive system.

Let us look at the type of infection caused by strep A.
- a throat infection - specifically an infection at the back of the throat which is known as pharyngitis
- impetigo - a type of skin infection that can cause blistering of the skin
- cellulitis , an infection of the deeper layers of the skin
- inner ear infection
- sinusitis, an infection of the small air-filled cavities that are found behind the forehead and cheekbones

Now the first and the last infections mentioned above are very commonly found. Taking antibiotics unnecessarily can contribute to the growing problem of microbial resistance. When bacteria are frequently exposed to antibiotics, they may become "superbugs" that cannot be treated with standard medications.

As for the case of the rotten tooth being the root of the cause, there are steps you can take at home to lessen the effect, which is a soothing saltwater gargle. Try mixing a teaspoon of salt into a glass of water to make this easy remedy. Then to address the infection to the other organs, we must take steps to increase the body's own immune system by eating right. We must also boost up with natural food supplements. By educating ourselves with the right information, it is better to find a wholesome remedy that would not affect our health in the long run. We are not going to exchange one ailment with the another, but  we must first address the existing problem promptly. Any further delay may cost you your health and  happiness.

Using Nutrition as a Weapon Against Cancer

When most think about treating cancer, chemotherapy, radiation and surgery come to mind. There are, however, some other factors that play a role as well. One of these is nutrition, which has increasingly become recognized as a valuable tool in the fight against cancer. Regardless of what stage of fighting cancer the patient is at, nutrition can be a valuable tool.

Before treatment has commenced, nutrition is crucial. Cancer treatments are notoriously taxing on a patient's health and state of mind, and good nutrition can help ease this process. Weight loss is unavoidable when being treated for mesothelioma cancer, breast cancer or another form of cancer, but proper nutrition can help patients prepare for times of poor appetite by building up on nutrients before the commencement of treatment. Plant-based proteins provide the body with the components it needs to create the tools it uses to fight cancer. Eating well also helps the digestive system perform as well as possible.

While treatment is underway, good nutrition remains essential. Some nutrients cannot be stored by the body.  Keeping a regular supply of these nutrients flowing can help. Patients should not be too concerned if they cannot eat well for periods of time; all patients go through these difficult stretches, and a growing number are defeating their cancer. Focusing on eating well when it is possible, however, is important.

After treatment has ended, nutrition is an important tool to reduce the likelihood of cancer recurring. Treatment rarely eliminates the cancer entirely, but the body has a chance at defeating cancerous cells or activities that remain. By eating healthy nutrients and avoiding components of food that increase the odds of cancer, such as saturated and trans fats, patients can prime their bodies to prevent future cancerous activity.

Throughout the process, mental health plays a major role. Stress, anxiety and depression put strain on the body, and the body needs to dedicate as many resources as possible to fighting cancer. Studies have consistently shown the link between mental health and cancer outcomes, so patients should view maintaining an optimistic outlook as a tool for defeating their cancer. There will likely be periods of sadness and anxiety that come up, but working on using nutrition to help maintain a positive outlook can help.

Cancer also gives patients something to focus on while fighting. Too often, patients begin to feel a bit helpless as treatment is underway. Patients rely on specialist doctors who use their years of training and experience to give the patients the best odds they can. Doctors constantly tweak medicine doses and advise patients on the best way to proceed. Nutrition gives patients a topic to focus on, and it provides a route where the patient can have an impact on his or her chances of success.

Survival rates for cancer have never been higher, and the percentage of patients successfully beating cancer is climbing every year. All of these new treatment methods are helped by proper nutrition, and patients owe it to themselves to take the steps necessary to ensure that their nutrition is properly honed to defeat their cancer.

BRONCHITIS

Bronchitis is an inflammation of the airways of the lung, mainly caused by viral or bacterial infection. The symptoms of bronchitis are severe cough with green or yellow phlegm, shortness of breath and wheezing.
For this, you can try licking honey on an empty stomach,as it helps to cleanse phlegm from your body and remove dangerous substance from your stomach. Honey is also good for your liver and kidneys.

When I was young my mother used to steam eggs  to be eaten with congee / moey. It somehow created a pleasant feeling after taking the moey (rice with water). You can make this food therapy by taking an egg and  add a half cup of water and a tablespoon of honey. Beat the mixture well and steam for five minutes in a bowl.

In addition to that, you can also drink Minuman Herba which is available in sachets. Minuman Herba consists of Hydrocoytle Asiatica, which can be purchased at RM20 per 35 sachets. Put a sachet of MH in a cup and add some warm water , almost to the brim. Let it sit for 20 minutes. Before drinking it, add 3 drops of honey and stir well.

Al Quran , Surah 16 - AL-NAHL (The Bee)
Revealed about 1432 years ago.
16:68
And your Lord taught the Bee to build its cells in hills, on trees, and in (men's) habitations;
16:69
Then to eat of all the produce (of the earth), and find with skill the spacious paths of its Lord: there issues from within their bodies a drink of varying colours, wherein is healing for men: verily in this is a Sign for those who give thought.
16:70
It is Allah Who creates you and takes your soul at death; and of you there are some who are sent back to a feeble age, so that they know nothing after having known (much): for Allah is All -knowing, All-powerful.

Easy Sambal Udang Petai

Sometimes we crave for certain food and want to eat it as soon as possible. It is easy if we have some ingredients readily available in the refrigerator. Today, I will share with you my healthy version of sambal udang petai which taste and smell good ( to my children, anyway). I am one who do not have the time to properly weigh my ingredients but just chuck them in and improvise accordingly.

Ingredients:
1 onion / big shallot
1 lobe of garlic
3-5 pieces of red chillies / dried chillies (depending on how spicy you want it to be)
a teaspoon of belacan
a cup of water

Put the ingredients above in a blender and press away.

Pour the finely blended ingredients into a pan and let it boil.
Then after it simmers, add the following:

a small handful of petai (slice into 2 pieces)
10-15 pieces of prawns (take out the veins and head)
Add assam keping or 1/2 cup of tamarind juice.
To make it smell better, add some kaffir lime leaves / daun limau purut.
Remember to add salt for taste and about 2 spoons of brown sugar.

Let it simmer for  a few more minutes and it's ready! You can eat it with rice if it is soupy or bread if it is thick.

What is more pleasurable?

Pleasure is a subjective word.
To my opinion, eating is pleasurable. Breathing is much more pleasurable. Just ask those lungs / asthma patients. What would they give to be able to breathe properly. Similarly, to be able to pass motion is another pleasure that we often overlooked. What is being kept inside in not healthy. What is supposed to be discarded by the body system, gets stuck in between and ended up becoming toxins to the body.

"Behold! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day - there are indeed Signs for men of understanding" Al Quran : Surah Ali Imran 3 : 190

When we we get sick, it signals that our body cannot cope with the amount of work it has to do. Overeating, over indulging. At times we love the sweet and the aromatic, we forget to take in the goodness of plain mineral water. Of which, we need between 2 to 2.5 litres a day.

Acupuncture can also assist in getting the systems on the go, to work optimally. Primarily, the meridian point of LI4 could be used but it would not be suitable for pregnant women.

Kuala Lumpur to Bandung

I just came back today after spending 5 days in Bandung. She remains pretty much the place for a cool holiday since I was last in Bandung in 2008.

The cool air makes learning very condusive, as people are always fresh.  There is no need for air-conditioning or fan where I was.

Having been invited to BRC, I took an early flight to Bandung on the 14th October, reaching there in the evening. As the time in Bandung is one hour behind Malaysia, at 6.30PM, it was already dark. It was also because of the rainy season in Bandung.

The early morning was filled with a live radio interview on  MQ FM. Listerners called in after listening to our chat on beauty facial acupuncture. After finishing the radio interview, I was chauffeur driven to BRC to conduct a course on Beauty Facial Acupuncture - aptly named Botok Akupuntur. The theory part was done in the morning and continued after lunch. then came the practical part where everyone paticipating were eager to try on their friends' place. That was the fun part. After that, 2 participants stood up to to share their comments and experience that day. Alhamdullilah, I received many positive comments as they are happy to learn what they have not learnt aforehand.

Facial acupuncture leaves the face feeling tight and the fine lines can be smoothen over a few sessions of acupunture. The natural effects could last for a month depending on one's lifestyles. For those wishing to look more radiant, they can try acupunture every week. Minimumly, at a space of 3 days.

Facial Acupuncture

Today, we had an acupuncture course on the beauty series. It was about facial acupuncture to get a facelift effect without having to resort to injections or minor surgeries.

My students learnt about the basic introduction and concepts about acupuncture in the first part of the day. Facial acupuncture points were introduced and videos were shown to further enhance their knowledge. The latter part of the day was spent practising what they had learnt.

Puan Atikah, a 59 year old participant commented "I did not feel any pain at all when the needles were inserted. I felt relaxed and refreshed."

We smoothered the face with Minyak But But, a herbal ointment before inserting the needles. It has antiseptic qualities and heals wound quickly (you can purchase it from us at only RM10 a bottle, exclusive of postage) .

Another participant En. Abdul Malek was at first apprehensive about  doing the practical part.  He was all for it when the needles were inserted onto him. When we gave assurances to En. Abdul Malek that we will guide him along the steps, he was willing to give it a try.

After that, En Abdul Malek have this to say, "Well, I didn't think I could do acupuncture, inserting the needles and all, but now I could!

Your Palm Holds Many Secrets

When you extend your palm for a handshake, you can actually be analysed in a few seconds. For the trained eye, a person's health indicator is shown on the palm itself.

Put aside palmistry or star reading...our health diagnosis can really help you to detect your body's weakness 3% in advance. When we learn about palm reading with regards to health indication, we can actually help ourselves. We can avoid agravating our health by taking the right food and do the necessary before we have to fork out thousands of  Ringgit for a surgery.

For example, your palm may be sweaty and wet, that already show that there is something not normal with your  imunity system and it can lead to worse scenario. Your finger nails can show if your body's hormone is imbalaced or your heart is in trouble (literally).

My Gastronomic Engagements

My last trip up to the North was filled with a few objectives. First, to be in Alor Setar for Eid Adha celebrations with my Mom in law (i am daughter out of law, hee hee!). Second, while driving up, we will stop by to savour the food at the newly opened RADIX PIZZA!

We woke up early and pushed off from home on a Thursday morning. While getting out of our area, hubby stopped to fill in the petrol. Next stop at HPA Branch, to buy some supplies like Radix Cola, IMT Drinks, Spirulina, Kacang Potong ( a mix of nuts and brown sugar, i think) - all for the road. It took us about 4 hours from Jalan Duta toll to Kedah. Enroute, I redirected the driver (my hubby) to Sg. Petani Utara. As we all hungry, the only place I could think of, to have lunch is at RADIX PIZZA HOUSE of course.

There are an array of food on our table - Chicken Soup of the day, Radix Chicken Supreme, Radix Hawaiian Pizza, Radix Spaggeti Bolognaise and Seafood Fettucini. Savoured to the last bite. Top it all off with Radix Chocolate Float. Yummy!

The trip lasted for a few days, on the second last day of our stay, we took the family to Perlis, to see some snakes at the Taman Ular (Snake Garden). All sorts of live snake species and some other mammals.

After educational walk, our tummies were growling again, this time we looked for Radix Chicken House.

After searching high and low, at last we found the outlet and quickly ordered chicken rice meals for 15 pax!

After quickly finishing off the late lunch, we took a trip to Rimba Herba Perlis, unfortunately, we could not get in as it was closed. However, we just got to pose for a picture outside its gate. Enroute is a grape plantation?

My little daughter who is 4 years old, developed a fever because of the heat and being on the road for a few days. I quickly gave her IMT DRINK from HPA, to cool her fever and in the evening, she was alright again. Whenever one of my family members started to have sore throat, I would resort to IMT Drink. It restores the balance in the body's temperature and at the same time works well on the lympathic system. The cost ? RM3.50!

All well ends well. Alhamdullilah, we got home safely after spending 4 days away from home.
